Job: Application Engineer
Location: State College, PA or Remote
Summary:
The Application Engineer is responsible for the experimental validation, quality assurance, and customer technical support of commercial software. The PanOptimization team is developing industry leading thermomechanical FEA technology for applications in the simulation and optimization of Laser Powder Bed Fusion, Directed Energy Deposition, and welding processes. You will be working with customers and collaborators at the forefront of the AM field.
The position can be filled on a part-time or full-time basis, depending on the applicant’s availability.
Responsibilities
- Validates FEA simulations against experimental data
- Designs experiments for solver validation
- Provides technical support to customers/partners
- Performs extensive pre-release solver testing/QA to ensure solver quality
- Interacts with end-users to gather feedback on work and ideas for future features/improvements
Minimum Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
- Experience with Additive Manufacturing
- Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
- Thorough understanding of Finite Element Analysis
- Familiarity with common thermomechanical modeling approaches for AM processes

Job: Software Engineer

The Software Engineer is responsible for the development of commercial software. The PanOptimization team is developing industry leading thermomechanical FEA technology for applications in the simulation and optimization of Laser Powder Bed Fusion, Directed Energy Deposition, and welding processes. You will be working with customers and collaborators at the forefront of the AM field.
The position can be filled on a part-time or full-time basis, depending on the applicant’s availability.
Responsibilities
- Writes commercial code with careful attention to performance and scalability, to be applied by end-users
- Works on FEA solver code or code that functions as an interface between the core solver and existing libraries
- Performs extensive pre-release code testing/QA to ensure code quality
- Interacts with end-users to gather feedback on work and ideas for future features/improvements
Minimum Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field
- Experience writing commercial-grade code in C and Fortran
- Experience with HPC
- Experience with OMP and MPI programming
- Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field
- Thorough understanding of non-linear Finite Element Analysis
- Familiarity with common thermomechanical modeling approaches for AM processes
- Experience reading/writing STL, 3MF, or other CAD formats
